Amsterdam with my bestie! Monday 29th September - Thursday 2nd October 2014

Wednesday, 8 October 2014
I recently took a little trip over to Amsterdam with my best friend Amy. We had been talking about going for sooo long, so we treated ourselves to 3 nights away with our sparkly new student loans in our bank accounts! naughty naughty. Although we did get an amazing deal, £220 each for flights and our hotel.
During our time there we really wore ourselves out trying to see as much as we could, leaving the hotel early each morning, returning late afternoon for a little refresh then heading back out each evening.
In the day times we enjoyed little cafes for lattes and tasty things like bagels or pastries. This is one of our favourite things to do together and we managed to find some lovely places, either tucked away in a cosy corner or sat outside enjoying the sunny and surprisingly warm autumnal days.
On the evenings we wandered around looking for nice bars to have a few drinks and listen to live music. We found that because it was during the week a lot of places were closed and we couldn't go to clubs (boohoo!) but there were some nice bars with heated outside areas where plenty of people were out enjoying a casual beverage too.

On the 1st October we decided to venture down to the Theatre Carre where Jason Mraz had been playing. Unfortunately I couldn't get tickets to the gig but I hoped we could meet the man himself, so we got a bike taxi over there - which was an experience in itself - and waited around the back of the theatre with a group of fans.
After waiting there an hour or so (it was about 12.30 at night) we heard that taxis had been called for Jason and the band and we rushed round to the front of the theatre to find two taxis waiting, but the drivers said that Jason had already left in a previous car! We were pretty devastated! I did enjoy hanging around with some fans like myself though, and we made a new friend named Kevin who wore a turtle backpack which is awesome in my book!
After the excitement and anticipation we didn't really know what to do with ourselves, so we wandered back into the centre of Amsterdam and I took some pretty cool night time pictures on my SLR on the way. After a stop off at a cute little bar we headed back to the hotel for the night.

Our hotel was the Hotel Maxime which we were a bit apprehensive about after reading some dodgy reviews online, but it was fab!! It's really modern, and it doesn't have a reception you just get given codes to get through the doors, so it feels like your own little apartment. It's also located on P.C. Hooftstraat which is where all the designer shops are! We were above Prada and opposite Gucci and Chanel - well impressed! The location wasn't bad either, near the 'Iamsterdam' sign where there are some nice coffee shops, and you only have to walk a little way to the main road up into Amsterdam central which is a lovely route to walk anyway.

The shops in Amsterdam are absolutely brilliant, especially Monki which is one of my favourite stores EVER I have decided after this trip. We only have one in the UK and it's all the way in London, so I rarely get to shop there. I filled my arms up with clothes and was in despair in the fitting rooms because I loved everything and couldn't buy it all because it wouldn't fit in my case!! Definitely a Monki post to follow ;)

So I'm going to wrap this post up here with some of the photos I took during our trip, a lot of which I'm smugly impressed with! Absolutely love getting out there with my 'proper' camera instead of iphone photos all the time.

Enjoy! Oh, and if you want to see any of the images larger, just click on it :)

Blog Re-vamp!

Sunday, 5 October 2014
So I've spent my weekend working hard to improve and re-vamp this blog again. I did originally use this one, then college asked us to create one on weebly.com, which I found quite basic and annoying since I'm used to blogger. We've just started our new year and so I decided to start fresh here again, where I feel I have a lot more creative freedom! I've already learned a lot from changing things the past couple of days so I'm really excited to start posting regularly and making interesting content.

Jason Mraz? Yes!!

Thursday, 24 July 2014
I recently bought the new album from Jason Mraz, entitled Yes. As predicted I can't get enough! I have loved this guy and his amazing music for years, having all of his songs in every different version on my laptop. His CDs are the only ones I actually buy 'in the flesh' and I play them in my car round and round until I can sing along to every word.
On the new album - as i do with all of them - I can't pick a favourite song, my favourite changes with every listen. BUT here are some that I love! These videos are from the Jason Mraz YouTube channel and they are shot beautifully. I'm in love. YES Jason!

Oh and I still haven't managed to find affordable tickets to the concert in Amsterdam yet. Come on student loan... only 2 months to go!

Current Wishlist

Tuesday, 15 July 2014
At the moment funds are tight, with no student loans over the summer I'm relying on my part time minimum wage job to get by, and I've gone and had two trips abroad, and booked a little trip to London next month. So I really don't have any spare cash for shopping! But that doesn't stop me wishing and wanting. These are the items I'm really lusting after right now.

1. Jason Mraz tickets!!!
But not just any tickets, I HAVE to see him in Amsterdam. I did this the last time he toured and the whole experience was fantastic. A far cry from the crowd of drunken aggressive fools at one of his gigs in Manchester a few years ago, the Amsterdam venue had a calm, cheerful atmosphere. They even had stalls selling fruit! Everyone was singing along and it felt like we were all coming together to enjoy the music. I'm guessing maybe that's why the Amsterdam tour date has completely sold out! :(
I don't know where on earth I was when the tickets went on sale, possibly Italy, but I completely missed out. Fingers crossed I can get my hands on some tickets somehow, although I am really not keen on paying the prices people have set on sites like viagogo... £150 a ticket?! I don't think so.

2. TOPSHOP Saturn Zip Front Heels £58
I absolutely love these new shoes we got in stock at work. I could see myself wearing them with so many things and for any occasion. The sling back style with the silver zip at the front looks so cool and chic, and with them being genuine leather I think they would wear really well and be pretty comfortable. I'd definitely wear these with my white ripped knee Jamie jeans and a crop top for work!

3. MAC Costa Chic £15
This is a lustre finish lipstick and the coral pink colour is so perfect for summer. Beautiful!

4. Slip / Cami Dresses
Recently I've been looking everywhere at slip dresses and I really love the way they look layered over little crop tops. I have a couple of the topshop cropped fitted tees and they would be the perfect pairing! ! I noticed a few lovely ones by Motel Rocks so I plan to try some of these on when I go to London with one of my best friends next month :)

5. Office, Garnet Cuff Block Heel £65
These white leather beauties are an absolute dream aren't they?! Although similar to the Topshop shoes as they are a slingback heel, the white and tan colour makes them so fresh looking and summery, in stark contrast to the all black, I just have to include both pairs in my wishlist.

6. Michael Kors Hamilton Cross Body in Tan £220
I first saw this bag in the Michael Kors store in Florence back in May. My friend Amy has the blood orange version and I absolutely adore it. I realised I don't actually own a small day time bag, only larger handbags and evening clutches, so there really is a gap in my wardrobe for this bag!

Firenze, 14-17 May 2014

Monday, 19 May 2014
In May this year I visited Florence in Italy with my college class. We stayed for three nights at a little hotel on a road straight along from the beautiful Duomo. On this trip we spent our time getting to know the place, as tourists do, wandering around, eating, drinking, taking pictures and enjoying every moment. I can safely say I fell in love with this city almost instantly.

Florence is a breathtakingly beautiful place with ancient stone buildings and fabulous architecture each way you turn. In the day times the weather was amazing and we enjoyed strolls by the river and gelato that tasted a million times better than I anticipated. At night time the little bars come alive quite late and we enjoyed several cocktails and ended up in a night club absolutely crammed with people. For a small city the night life was a great surprise and we had a lot of fun.

Many of the people who live in Florence are friendly, lovely people, and I wished I could have spoken more Italian than just 'ciao' and 'grazie'. I did try my best to pick up a few things though!

During our trip we visited Polimoda, the amazing fashion school in Florence and we had a presentation about what it's like to study there as well as a tour around the buildings. It's such a world apart from our little building in Newcastle and I couldn't believe the ornate interior of one of the buildings with painted ceilings and absolutely everything was golden, it was like a palace!

The shopping in Florence is amazing too with all of the designer shops like Celine, Tiffany's, Prada, Chanel, Mui Mui, I was in my element looking around at the beautiful clothes and shoes.

I can safely say this trip made me completely obsessed with Italy and it is now my mission to go back as soon and as often as possible!
